Touched with Fire is a film starring Katie Holmes and Luke Kirby as two poets with bipolar disorder who meet in a treatment facility. The film illustrates the elements of their illness, how it manifests in their relationship and what their families experience when trying to intercede. While both poignant and painful, the main characters each must choose between a life of stability and a life of emotional extremes. Many issues are revealed in the film including the difficulty of managing the highs and lows of this mental illness, why treatment is not always a simple solution, and how families struggle to cope and also experience the extremes along with their loved ones.
