Nominated for several Academy Awards including a win for Olivia Colman for Best Actress, The Favourite is a unique “tragicomedy” set in 18th century England during Queen Anne’s reign. We meet Sarah Churchill (Rachel Weisz, nominated for Best Supporting Actress), a childhood friend and long-time advisor of Queen Anne. We are also introduced to Abigail Hill (Emma Sone, nomiated for Best Supporting Actress), cousin of Sarah, as she arrives in town and attempts to win the approval of the Queen. Both women desparately try to keep the affections of the Queen and fight for power and recognition. The Favourite is a rich, brave, and sometimes upsetting film that explores concepts related to the ego, the shadow, power and privilege, identity, and sexuality.
