Maleficent is a fascinating retelling of the age-old story of Sleeping Beauty, told not from the standpoint of the sleeping princess, but from that of the vengeful fairy who had put the curse on her. This movie, filled with archetypal symbolism and exploration of personal and collective shadow, invites differing interpretations, but certainly raises issues around the meaning of feminine empowerment. And for sure, come and enjoy Angelina Jolie in her unforgettable role as Maleficent!
