Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance depicts a former film star as he desperately attempts to revive his fallen acting career and ultimately, seek his true identity and purpose. Starring Michael Keaton as Riggan, the washed-up star plans his comeback through writing, directing, and starring in a Broadway adaptation of Raymond Carver’s What We Talk about When We Talk about Love. Directed by Alejandro Iñárritu, this highly acclaimed drama/comedy illuminates the world of theater with a nearly satirical cast of characters. Through contrasting moments of reality and fantasy, Birdman captures the plight of the artist and the overarching struggle between the Persona and Self.
