Fairy tales quietly invite us into the archetypal realm, suggesting that our individual lives be seen as universal. In their ‘once upon a time’ reality, these unauthored tales show us how the personal and the impersonal worlds weave in and out of each other, uniting the past, present, and future.  Marie Louise von Franz wrote that they ‘are true and untrue, neither and both.’  As we explore the tale of The Frog King, we shall learn if these ideas hold relevance for us today. The workshop will focus on deepening our understanding of the archetypal underpinnings of this tale. How many of us have undervalued what we hold dear? Have we not made a promise we have no intention of keeping? Have we not made our world so small that our rage is the unexpected release? Together we shall explore this tale of transformation, suggesting a transition from one collective system to a new paradigm, one perhaps relevant today.

Participants are asked to read this tale before class and have a copy with you for the class.  Please use the original tale – The Frog King, or Iron Heinrich – from the Brothers Grimm.
