Astrology is a symbolic language that speaks to the imagination and intuition. Its glyphs and symbols express archetypal patterns that appear in dreams, art, and human experience. As Jung observed, “Astrology represents the summation of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity.” Learning the language of astrology can deepen our understanding of archetypes and the symbolic dimensions of the psyche. Like learning any language, the first step in reading a horoscope is becoming familiar with its alphabet. In this introductory lecture, we will explore the origins and meanings of the astrological glyphs and consider how astrology has appeared across cultures throughout history as a symbolic language expressed through art, myth, and imagination. We will also reflect on how symbolic thinking can enrich our understanding of dreams, creativity, and psychological life. Please feel free to bring a notebook and some pens so you can try to learn to draw the astrological glyphs while exploring their archetypal meanings.

About the Instructor
Anne Redlich is a therapist in private practice with over 40 years of experience. She has training in both contemporary and Jungian psychoanalysis. Anne has studied astrology for nearly five decades and her knowledge and understanding inform her approach to psychotherapy and dreamwork. Anne Redlich began her career working with emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. She was the assistant director at the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School at the University of Chicago. She has also volunteered at the Kovler Center for the Survivors of Political Torture and at the National Immigrant Justice Center where she served as an expert witness in immigration and asylum cases.
